There are two really good forums shared in the latest SPAN Small Publisher's Journal. My favorite is Fwis's Covers at http://covers.fwis.com/. Here, actual current book covers are featured and discussed, it appears mostly by book designers. Their discussion of why certain images are used, how the design developed, etc. is very interesting and helpful to those of us who are responsible for making this important decision for each title we publish. The really good entries are where the designer himself/herself tells about how the design evolved. It gets you thinking about all the kinds of things you should take into consideration when choosing a cover design and its designer.
